Dick had told her about a mission. An undercover mission. An undercover mission, apparently, where Batman and Robin would be joining her... She just had to sit at a nearby table with a newspaper, wearing a red rose.

...Which she had been doing for the last half hour. She was honestly starting to think he'd pulled a prank on her. Except if he had, why hadn't he come out laughing already?

So she sat there, on the hard bench, with the cold tea, and tried to plot out exactly how she might get her revenge on him...

Linda was late. Not terribly late, but late enough to be embarrassed about it. She didn't ask anyone to set her up on a blind date. Her last blind date had ended with a super-powered stranger trying to kill her parents. But she had reluctantly agreed, and now she was making the poor guy wait.

When she got to the cafe she looked around in a panic. There weren't a lot of guys here. After a moment she felt the crushing disappointment and paranoia of being stood up when she realized that none of them were wearing a red rose. There must have been some mistake. Maybe it was another one of Andy's joke. Or maybe she had kept him waiting so long he just left. Or maybe she had the wrong cafe, or the wrong time, or even the wrong day. Maybe she should just go home already.

As she turned to leave she saw a red rose out of the corner of her eye. But the person wearing it? She frowned. And then she sighed. This was exactly like Andy. She walked over to the girl with an apologetic look on her face.

"Hey. I don't guess you're Gordon?" Probably not, but her date was supposed to be wearing a rose.

"I'm sorry. It's my friend Andy. She said she was going to set me up on a date, but I didn't think- I mean I'm not-" She paused and took a deep breath.

"I'm sorry you wasted your time."

"Commissioner?" Linda mused. She was in Gotham. And there was only one name that came to mind.

"Commissioner Gordon?" Definitely a joke then. She wasn't prepared for the girl to take her hand, and she really wasn't sure what to do once she did.

"Um. Hi. I'm Linda Danvers. But I'm really... not interested in girls."

Oh. Oh, okay, that wasn't a come-on. She knew Andy probably wasn't joking - the woman still wanted her to find her lesbian side - but at least it didn't seem like Barbara was taking it seriously. She relaxed almost immediately, and even grinned.

"What did you have in mind?"

Linda blinked.

"No, never." She wasn't even that big on shopping. But if it was on someone else's dime... No, she scolded herself. That wouldn't be very 'angelic' of her. And it was probably illegal.

"Are you allowed to be using that?"

"As long as it's yours," she trailed off. Then it wasn't really her fault if the girl was using it irresponsibly. And it wasn't like she was going to buy hundred dollar boots. Maybe just some sneakers. It would give her evening some meaning besides Andy laughing at her discomfort. She smiled again, resting her hands on her hips.

"Then you're on."

Linda trailed along behind. At least the two were close enough in height that she wasn't really being dragged, although the hand-holding wasn't completely necessary.

"Where to, Barbara?"

She blinked, but followed as she was tugged. She wasn't so familiar with the town that she could find the subway on her own. She only hoped that she could find her way back.

"Uh, you paid up at the cafe, right?" The thought occurred to her suddenly as they passed strangers on the street, some of them going the opposite direction, others seemingly headed for the same subway entrance rising up ahead.

That was comforting. The girl wasn't a total delinquent. Not that Linda hadn't had her own delinquent days, but she was trying to put all that behind her.

"Oh, I can-" she started as Babs paid at the turnstile. Too late.

"Thanks," she concluded sheepishly. "What bus are we waiting for?"

"Got it," she agreed with a nod. She wove deftly through the crowd, keeping her hold on Barbara's hand. It didn't even occur to her that people might see and talk. She was used to people talking about her, and it was far more convenient not to lose the girl.
